Is the Walkin’ Scooter Right for My Pet?

The Walkin Scooter Helps Disabled Pets Stay Active!

The Walkin’ Pet Scooter gives your best friend the happy, healthy life they deserve. The Scooter is designed to help pets with no use of their back legs and drag their hind end around in the home when they are not using a pet wheelchair or other mobility device. The scooter helps keep paralyzed pets active, allowing them to glide around the house on wheels instead of dragging, and will enable them to play and enjoy quality time with the family!

The Walkin’ Scooter is not intended for pets who can still walk but have rear-end weakness. For pets who can still stand and walk with their back legs, we recommend the Walkin’ Wheels as it can give them similar independence to the Scooter but allow them to exercise their back legs and can also be used outdoors.

What to Expect:

The Walkin’ Scooter is designed specifically to assist paralyzed dogs and cats move throughout the house comfortably. Your pet’s scooter will allow them to move throughout the house independently and freely without the worry of them injuring themselves from dragging their rear end on the ground.

We recommend introducing it slowly and using a lot of positive reinforcement, whether that is treats or praise. Because of the Scooter’s design, your pet will be able to sit and lie down while in it, meaning you can leave your pet in the Scooter for extended periods without having to worry about removing them from it to rest. With that in mind, we recommend supervision while your pet is in their Scooter, as there is always the possibility that the scooter can get stuck on or under a piece of furniture, doorway, or similar obstruction. If you would like to leave your pet in the Scooter unsupervised, we suggest waiting a bit as, over time, you and your pet will get to know the limitations of the scooter and be able to judge this based on the individual circumstances. Also, please note that while the Scooter is great for incontinent pets using a diaper or male wrap, hygiene needs to be maintained to keep your pet healthy, comfortable, and dry in the Scooter.

For Best Results:

Whether your pet is newly paralyzed or has been so for a while, the Walkin Scooter is designed to assist them in staying active throughout the house and help them keep up with you. Their situation, whether new or old, can be something that causes more anxiety and can make new items and experiences scary. Therefore, slowly introducing your pet to the Walkin’ Scooter is important. A slow introduction will help your dog to become comfortable and create a positive association with its new Scooter. This, in turn, will make it even easier for you to help get them into the Scooter and help them gain confidence in themselves while using it.

How to Choose the Right Size

how to size a walkin' scooterhow to size a walkin' scooter

The weight of the dog on the sizing guide is for reference only. Every dog is shaped differently, and we recommend using the length measurement as your primary measurement.

When measuring, start at the base of the rib cage. When lying down, every dog positions their legs differently, which can change the size of the scooter your pet needs. Pets that extend their back legs behind them as they drag measure all the way to the tips of their toes. For pets that sit on their hind legs as they scoot, measure to the end of the rump.
